We have had a very busy past couple of months. I am in the process of creating a site that will include all of the fun activities we had done in December and January. There is too much to place on this blog. As soon as it is available I will place a link here for you to access it. Meanwhile, I will update you on some current event as well as some that are coming up soon.

In December the students participated in several community projects that included Adopting a Foster Child for Christmas, Operation Christmas Child, Churches Touching Lives for Christ (CTLC) and the collection of coats for the needy. Our class also celebrated St. Nicolas Day, Jesus Birthday and went on a Gingerbread Man hunt.

January brought with it the study of winter that includes a science experiment where the children observed what happens when you mix Borax with hot water. We made snowflakes. As the water cools crystals form on the pipe cleaner that we formed into six pointed shape. The students will also be doing another experiment next week with tissue, glue and shaving cream. It will be quite interesting.

The students have been working very hard learning new site words and practicing their reading skills. They are combining site words with phonics to enable them to read simple stories. Remember the more they practice at home the more confident they will become. A list of the site words introduced so far are: I, like, the, and, see, we, a, to, come, me, with, my, you, and what. Next weeks sight words will be are and now.

It is hard to believe but our 100th day is coming soon. February 3rd the school will be celebrating. There will be some more news to follow. Meanwhile we will taking part in International Days. This year will be focusing on Japan with a presentation from Mrs. Wagner. The school is also teaming up with the church community to raise money for Nets for Life Outreach Project. We are hoping that every family will donate $12 dollars which will be used to purchase a mosquito net for families in Africa. The nets fit over the beds and are big enough for three people. They protect them from being mosquitoes that are known to carry Malaria.

Donuts for Dads is also coming to our school on January 27th. All Dads, grandpas, uncles, cousins or friends are invited to attend from 7:45-8:15. There will be a table set up in the front of the building where "Dads" will pick up there donut and/or breakfast taco and coffee and/or orange juice. They can then take them to their child's classroom where the students will be served a donut and milk/water/juice.

CHURCHES TOUCHING LIVES FOR CHRIST (CTLC)
CTLC has a food pantry open to those in need in our community. This year, we ask that:

*The Pre-School children in Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Langford’s rooms bring canned corn and boxes of macaroni and cheese. This will be our YELLOW group;

*The Junior K and Kindergarten children bring cans of sweet potatoes and carrots. This will be our ORANGE group;
*The First Graders bring canned green beans. This will be our GREEN GROUP;
*The Second and Third Graders bring canned fruit. This will be our PURPLE/PINK group;
*The Fourth Graders bring canned meat such as tuna, salmon, or chicken. This will be our BLUE group.
*The Fifth Graders bring canned cranberries and cranberry sauce and/or 1-2 pound bags of rice. This will be our RED group;
*Faculty and Staff bring canned soup, stuffing mix, 1 lb. bags of pasta, or 1-2 pound bags of pinto beans. This will be the JEANS group.

Each group will have a color-coded box that matches the group’s color, so that when your child brings his or her donation, it will be easy to put it in the correct box. All food items should be brought to school by Thursday, November 17. On Friday, November 18, each child may wear the color of his or her group to school instead of uniforms. At the Sharing Feast, each group’s food will be brought to the altar in the Parish Hall and blessed by Father David before it is delivered to CTLC later that afternoon.

Last week we celebrated Veteran's Day on Friday by having a school wide prayer at 11:11 on the playground. We then paraded around the block carrying flags and singing patriotic songs. We had several people pass and even one gentleman that slowed, stopped and then parked his truck. When asked if he was a veteran he said, "Yes, that is why I am taking my time." He paused for a moment while the children passed him. Please view the pictures that have been posted on CCS facebook page.

As far as class work you will find that we have added sight words up to the word a to our list. We also talked about color words and how they are adjectives that describe what something looks like. We began segmenting onsets and rimes which is just the opposite of what we had been doing with the blending of onsets and rimes. This coming week we will add the word to and talk about numerals. The students will also begin blending phonemes in order to sound out words. The letter sounds that we have worked on so far are; /m/, /s/, /a/, /t/, /k/(c) and this week /p/. With just these few sounds we will be able to create many words.

In math we will be look at telling time to the hour this week. The past few weeks have been review and discovering the penny. The penny will continue to be a big part of the next few lessons.

Our Sharing Feast is on Friday. Our class will be making Sweet Potato Casserole. If you have not signed up to bring something to add to the receipt please the list posted outside the classroom. There are a lot of giving opportunities during this time of year. Please read the CCS news letter for a full description of all these fantastic ways to give back.

Remember Barnes and Noble in Waco is hosting our Fall Book Fair. You may purchase items on line but we want to encourage you all to make a trip to the Waco store. The School will get a percentage of all sells but the Waco store will only benefit if you purchase items in the store. Many of the teachers will be present at the store on Saturday morning so you can make a family outing of it and get some Christmas shopping done at the same time. See you in Waco!!!!

Last week we changed our Alphabet Chant to a Halloween Chant. You might have heard your child singing it a little differently over the past two weeks. They really enjoyed it and seem to learn the chant faster and better then I did.

In Language we added we to our sight word list as well as reviewed the previous five words. All the students are doing really well with learning them. We also began blending onsets and rimes (no this is not misspelled). What this means is we took the first sound of a word and blended it with the rest of the word. For example I would say /s/ and then /at/ the student would then say sat. This can be a difficult concept so if you could work on this at home it would help them. Also if you actually point to an object and do it with them they will be able to relate it better. Point to the table and then say /t/--/able/ and then ask the student to blend the two sounds together to make the word table. Another option would be at dinner find something on the table to blend and have the student try to guess as to the item you have chosen (Tell the student that you are going to blend a word that they can find at the table, say /c/ - /orn/, what food item am I saying) the student can look around the table if they are having trouble and find the corn.

We used buttons for sorting in Math this week. The students were asked to sort them by the number of holes each button had in them. We had some with 4, 2 and even 1 (shank) hole in them. At home many of you found a variety of objects to sort.

We ended the week with a study of our bones in Science. We talked about how our skeletal system helps us move and do all types of activities. We even used candy bones in Math while we counted, sorted and graphed them. In Reading we are making a class book about how our bones work. This should start coming home with the students beginning next week.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS for next week:

Monday we will be celebrating All Saints Eve: students may wear a costume that represents their favorite Bible Character - They should be able to tell the class who they have chosen and something about them.

Thursday November the 3rd is our 50th Day of School. Our class will be celebrating by learning about the 50's; events that happened, popular games, candy and activities. We will have a Sock Hop in the gym and will share a 50's style lunch followed by a banana split for dessert. Lunch items are being provided by the room parents and the banana splits will be served up by my father who in his time was an actual soda jerk in an ice cream shop owned by my grandfather. Lunch will start around 11:00 in our classroom. They children are encouraged (but do not have to) dress in 50's attire (Poodle skirts and bobbie socks, rolled up jeans and t-shirts).

Friday is a NO SCHOOL day. All teachers and administrators will be in Dallas for the SAES conference. However, ECO will still be open for those students who normally attend.

We have been very busy the last couple of weeks. In the mean time my personal computer crashed and I have been unable to upload any of the wonderful pictures that have been taken. I will continue to work on this and hopefully it was just a wrong setting on my camera. Today was our 40th day of school. I cannot believe how fast the year is moving along. Unfortunately Sofia's last day was last week and the students have asked about her. However, we have been really busy with so many other activities.

Last week we spent an hour painting and getting ready for Friday. On Friday the whole school went on a walking field trip to the Pumpkin Patch sponsored by the First United Methodist Church. The students saw pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colors. There was a story time and a picture to color. A bean bag toss through a giant pumpkin was the highlight of the event. Each student received a small pumpkin to bring back to the school. We will use these later for an art project. When we arrived back at school we made paper bag pumpkins, paper plate scarecrows and did Fall M&M Math.

This week we began making a book about The Life Cycle of a Pumpkin. Each day we complete a different page. We should be finished by next week. In addition to our week long Science project we learned a new sight word as we began anew unit in Reading. As you help your child practice, add the word see to the list. Friday we also celebrated the Renaissance by participating in the schools annual Canterbury Faire. There were games and prizes, a bake sell and even a pony ride. All the children had fun.

Next week we will continue to work on our pumpkin book. We will also start discussing the skeletal system and make class book about our bones.

This week was FILLED with birthday celebrations. We started the week with Johnny Appleseed's birthday, on Tuesday we enjoyed Zachary's and we ended with Brinley's on Wednesday. Needless to say this has been a very busy week. During our study of Johnny Appleseed we learned that his real name in John Chapman. He lived about 200 years ago and he lived playing outdoors and planting things. As he move west he would plant appleseeds and when they became little saplings he would sell them to settlers moving west. He also planted many orchards of his own. We enjoyed learning about different types of apples and tasting three of them in class. The yellow, red and greed apples were all so delicious, however, we all had our favorite. We made a pictograph the showed that the class favorite was the red and green leaving the yellow apple with only one vote. Come by and see our graph hanging on the bulletin board outside our room. We also made patterns using pictures that represented Johnny Appleseed and read a story about a little red house with no windows, no doors and a star inside.

Our sight word flash cards are almost complete we just have to add our color words and they will be ready to be sent home. We have learned I, like and the. Next week we will learn and. Your child should have brought home two books this week. Baby Bear's Family is a pre-decodable book that was sent home early in the week. Friday the students should be bringing the decodable book The Party. Their homework is to read to anybody or anything that they can get to sit still and listen.

Next week begins the month of October, which brings with it many exciting events. Most of them you should have received in the flyer that explains all the celebrations we will have this year. However, two new ones that we just confirmed this week are the trip to the Pumpkin Patch at First United Methodist Church on October 14th and a visit from the Temple Fire Department on October 18th (pending no emergencies).

The first of these celebrations will be this coming Tuesday. St. Francis Day is a day the commemorates St. Francis. He is the Saint of Animals. As a young man he loved animals so much that he would rescue injured animals and nurse them back to health. We remember him on this day by offering a blessing to our pets. You may bring your pets on Tuesday morning to the big field across Main St. for a blessing. We ask that pets be brought and taken home by parents. They may not stay at school during the day.

We start a new lesson next week focusing on people in the work place. We will concentrate on the /m/ sound make another class book about Fall.

Sorry for the lateness of this post. I had an out of town family event to attend this weekend.

We had another busy week of learning. We finished up our All About Me and our Five Senses units in Social Studies and Science. The children made books for both of these lessons that will be coming home next week.

Since Friday was the first day of Fall we will begin our Fall unit next week. First the students will learn about Johnny Appleseed. Monday is his birthday and we will be doing a lot of fun activities around the apple. We also have two birthdays this coming week.

Aside from celebrating birthdays we began a new lesson in Language and have a new sight word to learn. We now have three words, I, like and the, that we will be reviewing. You should have received your child first book that has words in it. This is a decodable book and you will start seeing both a Pre-decodable (pictures only) and a decodable book (with words) come home each week. The decodable books have our new sight words in them. The words are introduce in an order in which the student can begin making sentences with them. We are also still working on our sight word flash cards. I am hoping that these will be finished by the end of the week. I will then put them together and send them home for you to use to help your child review.

October is a busy month and I have many activities planned for the students. We also have several celebrations that we will observe as a school. You should have received a print out of all the celebrations for the rest of the year. If you have any questions about any of these please feel free to ask.

Wow! We had a really busy week. It started out with a birthday celebration on Monday. Happy birthday Ailish.

On Wednesday Kitty Jones from the Temple Fire Department came to school and taught us some safe ways and places to walk. Always walk on a sidewalk and cross streets only at the corner using the crosswalk. If you have to walk at night you should wear light colored clothing and reflective vests or strips and carry a flashlight.

On Thursday the students used their five senses to explore the garden during a Science lesson. We used our tongue to taste our snack before going outside and....

Friday brought a bright change of pace when three of the girls spent almost the whole recess on the swings singing a song. Listen carefully to hear them sing, "Aaahhh, aaahhh, sing a happy song". They repeat these phrase over and over while they swing. They were sooooo cute I just had to share.

We began a new lesson in reading and have a new sight word. I and like are the words were are learning. While you are reading with your child let him/her read along and see if they can pick out these words. We are working on creating flash cards that will include all the sight words for the year as well as some other ones like the color words. When these are finished they will be sent home so that you can help your child review them.

Despite our short week our days were full of learning and fun. We celebrated with Teddy as he told us about his first trip of the year, we celebrated our 10th day of school and had a special visit from Zero the Hero. He sent his puppet and a special Zero Treat to help us learn the importance of the number zero.

We also began our first unit in language, "Friendly Faces" and started making a book about ourselves, All About Me. Our sight word for the week was "I". Next week we will be introduced to the word "like". We will be making flash cards of our sight words (plus a few more that I feel they need to be familiar with) to take home so that we can practice our new words each week. You can help your child learn them by reviewing them each night. This should not be to time consuming if you practice just a couple of words everyday.

Next week we will be welcoming a new student into our class as well as celebrating a birthday and will have our first visit from Kitty Jones - our Safety officer. She is a member of the Temple Fire Department and will teach the students once a month about different ways to stay safe.

Hello Everyone.

We made it though the first full week of school!! Hurray!! We had a lot of fun reading about Chester Raccoon, by Audrey Penn. The Kissing Hand, A Pocket Full of Kisses, Chester Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully and Chester Raccoon and the Acorn Full of Memories are just a few of her books. Feel free to reread any or all of these books with your child. They can tell which one they like the most and share what they liked about it.

In math we have been working on our numbers, how to hold a pencil, counting and creating graphs. In Language we have been learning our Alphabet Chant (some of you have mentioned that your child is singing around the house), name recognition, printing our names, rhyming words and syllables. Our handwriting lessons are teaching how to sit properly, paper and pencil position and correctly forming each letter and number. The children have learned how to draw a vertical line and a horizontal line. These are the beginning strokes in printing. Please continue to work with your child on his/her handwriting.

Don't forget that this is a three day weekend and that next week we do not have school on Monday. We have two more lessons in our Welcome to Kindergarten reading program. Starting on Thursday the students will begin learning sight words, and start reading pre-decodable books that will come home for them to keep and practice. It is a good idea to put these in a place where they can find them but will also be safe. Pre-decodable books do not have words in them but the children should be able to tell a story by looking at the pictures. We will practice this is class prior to the books coming home. We will also be reading out of the leveled readers and these might also come home. These are full color books that MUST be returned to school upon completion. There is only one copy of each book and it is very important that each student have a turn with these books.

I have several moms that have indicated interest in being our room parent this year. Christina Marshall, Kelly Parmer, Cindy Scott, and Heidi Belson (once her schedule at work changes). Please feel free to contact these ladies if you have any questions about school or classroom activities. I feel very blessed to have so many parents interested in what we do here at school. I do know that Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Scott have also volunteered for another child's classroom so having several moms will help ease the load. Barbara Johnson said that she might be available to do some volunteer work in the classroom from time to time. I do have some art projects that I would like to do and would love to have several parents come in for an hour or so on these days and help the children paint, glue, cut out, etc. I will send out more details later about specific times and dates. If at that time there is anyone who could help they can let me know via email.

I will email a September calendar to you. I have not found away to attach a document to this blog.

End of the First Week

Well, we made it through the first week of school. The students worked hard and had a lot of fun too. We went over classroom and school procedures and rules. We went to music and Spanish and played at recess. We began our math and reading lessons and even made our first class book. This will start coming home next week.

We will have our first Chapel of the year this coming Wednesday. As we continue our reading lessons, the students will start learning our Alphabet Chant which helps them learn the sounds that each letter says. We will continue to practice proper handwriting techniques while the students review their letters, numbers and name recognition.

The class bear, Teddy, will start coming home soon. If you have a special activity planned over a weekend, that you would like to share with Teddy, please let me know the dates. I will try to send him home with your child at that time. Also, the "Can You Guess" bag will be coming home. Remember that whatever your child chooses to put in the bag must fit all the way inside, must remain a secret, and must have three clues written and put inside.

Welcome to Jr. Kindergarten

Welcome to a new school year and to Jr. Kindergarten. My name is Julie Keever and I will be your child's teacher this year. I taught Pre-K last year here at CCS, however, I am looking forward to a great year in Jr. K.

Meet the Students in our class.

Our language/reading curriculum is called Texas Journeys for Kindergarten. It is published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and is being used by several of our local school districts as well. The First two weeks we will be "Getting Ready for Kindergarten", a unit that reviews some basics that include: Rhyming, recognizing names, book handling, distinguishing between letters and numbers, letter names and Environmental print. For Math we will be using Saxon Math for Kindergarten. The first few lessons will included familiar with the tools we will be using during our lessons. Some of these include: Counting Bears, Pattern Blocks, Pictographs for Graphing and Linking Cubes.

Throughout the year we will have lessons in Science and Social Studies. During August and September we will look at What makes us Special, Families, Johnny Appleseed, and The Five Senses.

I will send out a monthly calendar to give you an over view of the many activities we will be doing throughout the year. The first one for August is attached below.

We had a great Open House. Everyone was excited about the start of a new school year and we had fun exploring the room while going on a Scavenger Hunt. I really enjoyed meeting all the parents and the wonderful children that will make up Jr. Kindergarten this year.

What we have learned this week and what we will learn next week

Hello parents! It has been a wonderful week in Jr. Kindergarten! We have been nusy, busy this week learning all kinds of new things. Our Saxon Math lessons have consisted of adding the dots on each half of a domino, short word problems ( such as ' Kathryn has one red balloon and three bule balloons. How many balloons does she have?' ), and patterning. We have also been learning more about time and I have been reviewing money. We have been practicing writing and have been reviewing our letters, the sounds they make, and our sight words. We have been discussing Easter this week and what the significance of Easter is. I have been reading Bible stories all this week about the events that lead up to Easter. We will continue this discussion next week.

Just some reminders:
      - There will be no school on Friday (Good Friday).
      - We still need donations for the Annual Fund! It does not matter the size of the donation.   :)
      - There will be Extended Care ONLY on the Monday after Easter. Children will need to bring a sack lunch and are not required to wear uniforms that day.

The lunch has been generously donated by this year’s Annual Fund Chairs Lori and David Butler. The contest is only for the number of contributors, not the amount contributed. Previous contributions to this year's Annual Fund will count towards your class; however, only donations specified for the Annual Fund will count. The contest will conclude Friday, April 29.

Hello Junior Kindergarten parents!

Hello everyone! It has been a while since I have written on here, but we have been very busy in Jr. Kindergarten! We are learning our word families through Hooked on Phonics, learning how to write independently and how to write sentences. We are learning basic addition in math with the use of dominoes, reviewing how to tell time, reviewing the value of money and patterns. We are discussing cowboys this week and Texas. Cowboy Day is Friday. This will be a fun day for the class. They are allowed to wear their cowboy attire to school, but please bring tennis shoes if your child is in Extended Care. Starry Knights :: CCS Gala

Please make plans for to attend the CCS Gala, Starry Knights. It will be a fabulous night with friends, exquisite food and fun all in support of CCS.

An exquisite seated dinner will be served at 7:30p.m. Following the dinner, Eddie Lange will host our live auction. You will not want to miss a single item on our silent auction or the class projects! David Louth's band will provide the live music and stargazing is available, weather permitting.

Uniforms and Colder Temperatures

With the cooler temperatures, we would like to remind everyone about our
uniform policy. Click here for the complete uniform policy.

While in the school building, class, chapel and lunch students are
required to be in approved uniform attire. Jackets, sweaters and coats
which are not part of the dress code will not be allowed. If your
student is cold natured and you need a sweater, please check our used
uniforms. You can always order sweaters, fleece and jackets from Lands
End.

Only white undershirts are to be worn. Long sleeve white undershirts are
permitted with a CCS polo shirt over. The navy blue long-sleeve Knights
t-shirt is only to be worn on Fridays.

For girls, only white or navy blue tights or leggings are permitted.

Pants with holes in the knees are to be patched or not worn at all.

Ties are mandatory for all boys first grade and up on Wednesdays for
Chapel.

Boots of any kind are not allowed.

Beginning Monday, January, 24, students out of the uniform dress code
will be sent to the office and will remain there until a parent can
bring the proper uniform.

It is our policy that students will go outside for recess unless it is
raining. Please send your children to school with warm coats and
anything else you would like them to wear in the cold weather.

We have ordered a few more long-sleeve Knights t-shirts for purchase.
They should arrive next week. If you would like to buy one, please see
Kathy Barnes in the office. The t-shirts are $15.

Hello everyone! It has been a while since I have been on here and I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday. We have been busy in Jr Kindergarten. We have been working on writing our letters, numbers, and names. We learned about our Solar System last week and have continued our discussion on winter weather. We have many important things coming up in the next few weeks.... here is a list of them all:

      - Donuts for Dad is Friday, January 21! All dads can come have donuts with their children from 7:45 to 8:15.

       - Valentine's Day parties will be on February 14 which is a Monday. I will have a sign-up sheet outside the door within the next week.

       - Parent/Teacher Conferences are February 21st. This will be an Extended Care Only day. I will have a sign-up sheet outside of the door within the next week as well.

     I am looking forward to the rest of the year. It is going to be a lot of fun!

Hello parents! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful week here in Junior Kindergarten. We are learning about Winter and Christmas. We have talked about the weather change, how it has gotten colder and how this is something that happens during the winter. We have been reading books about the meaning of Christmas and why it is important. We have made many art projects related to the Christmas season and winter.

We have also started a new book in our Happily Ever After curriculum. It is called The Tug of War. We have also been working with money and time in our Saxon Math lessons. I ask that each child work on writing the numbers 1-10 at home and that you talk about time at home. We are learning to tell time and it would be extremely helpful if they could learn a little at home. :)

Some things for you to remember that are coming up this month:

          - December 10th is Santa's Workshop. This is a day when the children will go from room to room    making different things in each room. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help out in our room.

           - December 14th is our Christmas program. It will be in the evening, so I will let you know the time when I find out.

           -   December 17th is our Christmas Party and the last day for the semester. I will have a sign-up sheet outside the door next week.

Candy Cane Lane next Wednesday, December 1

You most certainly will not want to miss the First Annual Candy Cane Lane Children's Holiday Fashion Show and Luncheon benefiting the Children's Hospital at Scott & White on Wednesday, December 1.

The fashion show will feature some of our adorable students modeling holiday fashions from My Vintage Baby, Orient Expressed and original designs from Amanda Duggan, a mom of a CCS student!

The luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. and is catered by Megg's Cafe. Tickets are $20. Space is limited so we urge out parents and friends to reserve a chair as soon as possible. To make your reservation, please see Kathy Barnes in the office or call 774.8622.

Parents Plus is also hosting a Holiday Bazaar in conjunction. Talented parents and friends of the school will have lots of gifts on hand to purchase. It is really going to be a fabulous day. The Bazaar will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission to the Bazaar is free.

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. :) We are starting a new week here in Junior Kindergarten. We are continuing our discussion on Thanksgiving celebration and what things we are thankful for. We are learning about the letter Mm, money (Saxon Math), ABB pattern, the numeral 9, letter recognition and writing names. We have a lot to do this week and many fun activities planned. I still need feathers from some of you for our turkey on our bulletin board, and I also need a can of green beans from each child for the Sharing Feast on Friday. - The Sharing Feast is on Friday, November 19th. I will need each child to bring a can of green beans by the Thursday before (we are doing the green beans this year).

- I still need the "feathers" from some of you for our turkey. They can be as decorative as you want and have as many family pictures as you want on it. I need the by Monday.

CCS Celebrates Veterans Day

Please join Christ Church School as we celebrate Veterans Day on
Thursday, November 11, at 11 a.m.

Students are encouraged to wear a white or red shirt. Uniform pants/
shorts/skirts are still required.

At 11 a.m. we will have our own Veterans Day Parade to honor all
veterans, especially parents and grandparents of students who are

I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather! :) We have had a lot of fun in Jr. Kindergarten talking about the weather change. We have also talked about things such as patriotism, fall, and Thanksgiving this week. We discussed what we are thankful for, what we eat at Thanksgiving dinner, the first Thanksgiving, and Pilgrims and Indians. We also discussed what it means to be patriotic, the United States of America (when the U.S.A. was formed, the different states, and the flag), and how important it is to be patriotic.

We have been learning about the letter Kk (the sound it makes, words that start with Kk). Our next letter will be the letter Ll. We are finishing up our Happily Ever After story (The Nightingale). Our next story will be The City Mouse and the Country Mouse. Since we started a new month, we started a new pattern on our calender. Our new pattern is the ABB pattern. We will do art projects that pertain to this pattern throughout the month of November.

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful week. We will start our discussion on Native American Culture next week in honor of Thanksgiving. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or comment on here. Thank you!

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. Canterbury Faire was a lot of fun and I enjoyed seeing so many of you there! Thank you for all the help with the booth and the support for the school. It is greatly appreciated. We have many fun things in store for this week. Our theme this week is Halloween. We will talk all about Halloween, jack-o-lanterns, trick or treating and being safe while trick or treating, and many other things. The letter of the week is Jj and we will start a new Happily Ever After story called "The Nightingale." Our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch is on Wednesday, so I will need permission slips by Tuesday. Also, our Halloween party is on Friday. I will need $3-5 from each child for the pizza and a bag of candy for the treat bags. Thank you all so much for all of your help. Have a wonderful day!

Just a few reminders:

            - Canterbury Faire is this Saturday! If you will be in town, I could really use vonlunteers for our booth. There is a sign-up sheet outside the classroom, so please sign up!

             - I need $3 from each child for the pizza for our Halloween Party. I will order 4 pizzas and you are more than welcome to come to the party and spend time with your child. :) The party will start at 11. Also, we will decorate the room while they are in music so if you would like to help with that please feel free. We will start with that at 10:30 while the children are in music.

             - We will have treat bags for the kids at our Halloween Party. I would like for each child to bring a bag of candy by Friday (the day of the party) to contribute to the treats that will go in the treat bag. :) I do not have any allergies in the classroom, so any candy is welcome.

              - Shields will need to be done very soon! We will hang them up during Canterbury Faire.

             - There eill be a bake sale during Canterbury Faire. There is a sign-up sheet outside of the classroom for those of you that want to bake something.

              - Pumpkin Patch trip is October 27th! We will walk over to the First United Methodist Church and there will be many fun activities planned. The children are allowed to wear jeans and their school shirts that day (school t-shirts). I will let you know what time when I find out. Parents are welcome to join us. :)

Royal Volunteers Needed for Canterbury Faire

BAKE SALE
We are asking for everyone to donate one large item (such as a cake, pie, or bread) and one batch of small items individually wrapped (such as cookies, brownies, rice krispy treats).
• Label everything with tags or printed labels from your computer, be sure to mention if the item contains nuts. Don’t worry about pricing, we will handle that.
• Presentation is everything! Large items sell much faster if they look great. Check the dollar store for Fall or Halloween plates to display your creation.
• Individual items don’t need to be wrapped as fancy, most of these will be sold and eaten at lunchtime. These will be priced at 50 cents each, so package accordingly (one brownie per bag, two cookies per bag, etc.).
• Delivery times: Friday, October 22 before 4pm at the front of the school, or Saturday October 23 before 10am at our table by the Parish Hall.

CLASS BOOTHS
Sign up for a time to help at your classroom booth. Each class has a booth and parents need to sign up for 30 minute time slots. If you are unable to go into your child's class and sign up, send your teacher an email and let her know when you can help.

RAFFLE
Ready for a fall getaway? The Canterbury Faire committee is so excited to announce a raffle for a weekend getaway to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine. It is a kid's dream and fun for parents, too! Tickets for the raffle are available in the office. Tickets are $10 per ticket or 3 tickets for $20.

Fall has arrived!

Hello everyone! What a beautiful week it has been so far. :) We are having a wonderful week in Jr. Kindergarten. We are learning all about the Fall season and the changes that take place during this time. We are also learning about patterns in our Saxon Math cirriculum, we have started a new book in our Happily Ever After unit (The Elves and the Shoemaker), are learning to count from 1-100, and many other things. We are going to start learning our high frequency words within the next week. When we do this I will send you a list of the words so that you can go over them with your child at home.

Please bring box tops to class by Friday. We really want to win that pizza party! :) We will also have a sign up sheet within the next couple of weeks for our Haloween party. I know it is early, but I wanted to give you all a heads up. If you have any suggestions on what food we should include, let me know. We will be ordering pizza for the party.

Christ Church School Sunday :: October 3

We hope you make plans to join all of us for Christ Church School Sunday this Sunday, October 3.

CCS is the primary ministry of Christ Church and the parishoners always appreciate seeing "their" students. At the 11 a.m. service the church will offer prayers for the school and will recognize the faculty, staff, school board, but most importantly our students. Upper School students will also sing.

Following we will have cake and fellowship in the Parish Hall. It is a lovely morning and we hope you will be there.

Students are encouraged to wear their Chapel uniforms.

Family Shields

Family Shields on display at Canterbury Faire 2009

Canterbury Faire is just around the corner (October 23!). We are asking each family to help with decorations by designing their own family coat of arms on the shield provided. During medieval battles, knights would put their family coat of arms on their shields so they could easily be identified as friend or foe on the battlefield. Have fun with it and make this a family project to do together with your children. If you still have your shield from last year, please send back so we can display the shields for others to view.

Shields will go home with students Friday. Keep in mind that this project is per family, not per student.

Please have the project completed and returned to school no later than Monday, October 18, so we can display them on the that week. On the day of the Faire they will be displayed outside on a castle wall to add to the medieval theme of the event.

Some Important Things To Remember

Here are some things that are going on at our school that you should remember:

Keep those BoxTops coming! The special bonus BoxTop program at H-E-B runs through the first week in October. Remember, the class with the most BoxTops will win a pizza party! We need box tops! :)

Canterbury Faire is quickly approaching and that means it's time for the Family Shields! Each year students design and decorate a shield with their family coat of arms. If you have a shield from previous years, please send it to school so it can be displayed and so others can see the incredible works of art you have produced! We will be sending home shields to new families to work on this week. Shields are distributed per family, not per student. When you have completed your shield please return it to school for display. Your child will be getting their family shield tomorrow.

Please make plans to join us for a special day October 3 at 11 a.m. Christ Church celebrates CCS Sunday with a special service for our students and school. First through Sixth graders will sing during the service. Join everyone for cake and lemonade in the Parish Hall following the service.

Our sign-up sheet for Parent Conferences is out on the board outside the door. Please sign up for a time convenient for you to meet with your child’s teacher about your child’s progress. Parent Teacher Conferences are on October 11th. Remember, there will be no school that day. Extended Care will be available for children enrolled in that program. There will be no morning drop off that day. This is a uniform free day! But, please send your child in tennis shoes. Please send a sack lunch. Mrs. Lin has the day off in the kitchen!

I will also have a list out tomorrow on here of the Spanish words that your child is learning each Tuesday and Thursday. This way you can help your child in this area if you would like to.

Field Trip

We will be going on a field trip to the CAC on Thursday, September 9. The performance, Above the Crowd, will begin at 10:30. Welcome to my blog! My name is Katy Davis and I am the Jr. Kindergarten teacher.
